JOHN DONOVAN

POLITICALLY
John Donovan is a proud Texan, dedicated Republican, and committed community leader. John has served as the Chair of Precinct 137 for the Republican Party in Plano since 2018, and he is deeply committed to conservative principles and grassroots leadership within the Republican Party. This was most recently evidenced by the fact that John led Precinct 137 to have the highest winning voting % (60%) for the Republican endorsed candidate among all Plano precincts in the January 31, 2026 Special Election. As a Republican Precinct Chair, John actively supports and advances the values of the Republican Party and the Republican candidates carrying those values forward for us. He believes that strong communities are built on personal responsibility, faith, ethics and a limited government led by conservative Republicans. In addition to his fundamental Precinct Chair responsibilities of block walking and poll greeting, John has been a consistent representative at the Texas State Republican Party Conventions, as well as serving and leading on the CCGOP Get Out The Vote Committee and Candidate Committee, on the latter serving as a Sub-Committee Vetting Chair for numerous Collin County races.

PERSONALLY
John and his wife, Leasa, have been married since 1991 and have lived in Plano since 1997, raising their two daughters here. They moved into Precinct 137 in 2002. They are active parishioners of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and are dedicated to serving Collin County through civic and charitable leadership. This service is most recently evidenced by John serving on the Board of LifePath Systems, the mental health services authority for Collin County. John was personally appointed to the LifePath Board by Collin County Judge Chris Hill, where John served for 3 years. In addition, John is currently serving on the Colllin County “Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone 4 – Collin Creek” Board, which oversees the program to support the revitalization of the Collin Creek Mall and the surrounding gateway area.
 

PROFESSIONALLY

John’s professional background began with his graduation from The University of Texas at Austin Business Honors Program in 1984, where he earned his BBA in Finance. He immediately began his career in financial services, starting in commercial banking. In 1991, John decided to pursue a more entrepreneurial path by becoming a financial advisor, starting and building a practice grounded in disciplined wealth management strategies and excellent client service while aligning with outstanding established firms for years to come. In 2014, John founded his own firm, Longhorn Wealth Management Group. John’s leadership and drive since then led to Longhorn Wealth being recognized as a member of “Longhorn 100” for 2026, an award bestowed by the UT alumni organization, Texas Exes, for being one of the 100 fastest growing companies in the world founded, owned or led by UT alumni.

Over more than three decades in practice, John has earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification and CHARTERED RETIREMENT PLANNING COUNSELOR™ designation, has received Million Dollar Round Table recognition, and won numerous other industry and company awards for performance and client service. John has also dedicated himself to educating others in the community, teaching financial and retirement planning courses in the Workforce & Continuing Education programs at Brookhaven College and other DCCD colleges, to employees at local Fortune 500 companies, and is currently serving as a guest lecturer on investments and wealth management at UT Dallas.
